The holiday season often brings new electronics as gifts, including mobile phones. While upgrading to the latest device is exciting, many people overlook a crucial step when parting ways with their old one: ensuring it’s properly wiped of personal data. - Click “Remove from Account.”
To remove an Android phone from your Google account, follow these steps:
- Go to google.com/devices in a web browser while logged into your Google account
- Find the Android phone you want to remove from the list of devices associated with your account.
- Click on the device to expand its information
- Click the “Sign out” button
- Confirm the removal by clicking “Sign out” again in the confirmation pop-up
Failing to sanitize your phone correctly could leave you vulnerable to identity theft, fraud, or blackmail. Additionally, sensitive work-related data might put your employer at risk if exposed.
