Core Bank is proud to celebrate Women’s History Month in March and feature women making an impact at Core Bank throughout the month. Meet Michelle Greenwood, People Operations Officer.
Michelle shared that finance found her, but it’s something she continues to enjoy learning more about. Right out of college, she worked for an investment company with online trading. That helped her learn at a young age about saving for retirement and the stock market. After moving to Core Bank, she was excited to learn a different side of the financial industry, from the different kinds of accounts to all the loan options.
Michelle’s role in Human Resources at Core Bank led her to be recognized as a Core Code Ambassador in October 2021. She is proactive in reaching out to employees, taking time to speak with them one-on-one and listening to their concerns and showing empathy. She said, “While knowledge is always important as you become a leader, how you treat people is even more important and can help you excel in being a great leader. That is what people will remember, how they were treated and appreciated while working under your leadership.”
Michelle had several women in leadership mentor her and she praises them for making her who she is today. She experienced small barriers in her career, but she believes it is about figuring out how to navigate the barrier and deciding if it is worth pushing through or moving on from. “If you believe in yourself and have a support system, fight through it! If you aren’t getting any back-up, is the barrier worth it? Maybe it is time to partner with someone who will fight that fight with you,” she said. Michelle shared that we are all in this together and need to help build each other up and support one another.
Advice Michelle would give to the next generation of female leaders is, “We got this! Do your best and work hard. You will stand out and move forward if you do, even in moments, it seems impossible.”
