#WinWednesday: Eviction Canceled & Lease Avoided – How Bankruptcy Gave One Client a Fresh Start

Seventy Five North was awarded the Core Bank Community Impact Award for the second quarter with a gift of $5,000. They were selected from among several other applicants also very worthy of the award. The Committee’s focus is on where “real impact” can be seen and measured, and Seventy Five North marked those boxes.

Seventy Five North was founded in 2011 and was named after the 75N Hwy that split the North Omaha community, destroying over 2,000 properties in the area. The organization’s purpose is to facilitate the revitalization of a healthy, sustainable, mixed-income community in North Omaha’s Highlander neighborhood and to empower neighbors to access opportunities in their community. The organization drives a neighborhood-wide effort with their vision for Highlander always in mind: “Children learn. Families are healthy. Community Thrives.”

Seventy Five North collaborates with Whispering Roots to facilitate monthly Neighborhood Marketplaces on the last Thursday of each month between June and September to promote neighborhood vibrancy, health, and an element of entertainment for all ages. The grant to Seventy Five North will be used to help promote the event and contribute towards Highlander Bucks, a stipend offered to Marketplace guests to be spent at any of the participating vendors. Additionally, produce vendors at the Marketplace accept WIC and SNAP payments.

Held on the last Thursday of the month between June and September, the Omaha Farm Stands are a collaborative effort between Seventy Five North and Whispering. Within these Marketplaces, there are a variety of fresh produce vendors as well as local entrepreneurs offering a variety of artisanal crafts, tasty snacks, entertainment products, and more. These neighborhood markets are one example of a collaborative initiative to enhance access to fresh produce in the Highlander Neighborhood, as well as the greater North Omaha community. By harnessing collective strengths between organizations, neighbors, entrepreneurs, and beyond, the Neighborhood Markets provide an ideal opportunity to mobilize, support, and encourage community engagement. The program serves Highlander, North 30th Corridor residents, families that are supported via SNAP, WIC or senior vouchers and welcomes the Omaha area to patronize the market. The last market of 2023 was on September 28th.

The Core Bank Community Impact Award reflects a deeper commitment to improving economic prosperity, especially for under-resourced individuals, families, and small businesses. Core Bank is dedicated to building healthier, more resilient, better connected, and inclusive communities throughout our footprint.
