Meet Marie Guffey, Director of Loan Administration

Core Bank is proud to celebrate Women’s History Month and feature Women in Leadership at Core Bank throughout the month.

Marie Guffey, Director of Loan Administration, has been with Core Bank since July 2021. Having worked in the banking industry for over 12 years, she began her career previously at another financial institution working in many operational roles. She then went on to lead the commercial document processing team, driving cohesion, efficiency, and an exuberant team culture across a multi-market bank footprint.

At Core Bank, her team consists of Loan Servicing, Loan Processing, and the Commercial Loan Assistants. They support the bank’s consumer, construction, and commercial departments. Loan Administration juggles many tasks from preparing loan closings to balancing general ledgers. Marie shared her input regarding women in leadership:

What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders?

One of my favorite books is the Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz. There are four very simple guides to follow that will aid you in your career, always come back to these:

  1. Be impeccable with your word
  2. Don’t take anything personally
  3. Don’t make assumptions
  4. Always do your best.

As a female leader, what has been the most significant barrier in your career?

Conscious or unconscious bias.

What do you think are the most important qualities of a successful leader?

Communication, transparency, flexibility, and adaptability. But above all, and the most important – be yourself!

Marie loves her family of two children, Madelyn and Carter, with her husband, Jeremy, and their two dogs: Hercules, a Weimaraner, and Xena, a Min-Pin. Yoga, photography, and cooking are her favorite hobbies. But, going to the movie theater is her favorite past time.

Marie is one-of-a-kind and we are proud to have her at Core Bank. She has a knack for making people laugh and thinking outside the box. Fun Fact, she was active in Girl Scouts until her Senior Year of High School. Marie received the highest and most prestigious award in Girl Scouting, the Gold Award, for her project teaching art classes to special needs children for a summer fun program that she volunteered with for many years. She also has experience working as a corrections officer, a security guard, and managed a Burger King at the age of 17. Her favorite part about all her career experience is – the people.
